Register

To officially join FRC Team 271, the Mechanical Marauders, complete the steps below. Return signed paper forms to Mr. Claiborne at Bay Shore High School. Questions? Email rich@team271.com or wclaiborne@bayshore.k12.ny.us.

Required steps

1. Read and sign the Student Team Handbook

Every member and a parent or guardian must read the handbook and sign the agreement page at the end. Bring the signed page with your registration packet.

2. Register with FIRST

Create a FIRST account (or log in), then register as a student member of Team 271 through the FIRST Student Team Information Member System (STIMS). A parent or guardian must then sign the FIRST Consent and Release form electronically. This is separate from the team and school forms.

3. Sign the communication waiver

Team communication runs through Bay Shore STEAM Corporation’s chat platform. A parent or guardian must sign the communication waiver before a student is added.

4. Commit to competitions

Students traveling with the team must return a signed commitment form for each regional. Deadlines are announced at team meetings.

5. Order your team uniform

Members wear the team shirt at competitions and outreach events. Use the order form to choose your size.

What we expect

  • Attend at least 2 hours of meetings a week, 8 hours a month minimum, and more during build season.
  • Keep grades up. No grade below a C in any progress period.
  • Volunteer for outreach activities every season.
  • Follow all shop safety rules and the decisions of the coaches and mentors.
