To officially join FRC Team 271, the Mechanical Marauders, complete the steps below; step 2 is optional. Return signed team forms to Mr. Claiborne at Bay Shore High School. Questions? Registration steps
1. Register with FIRST
Create a FIRST account (or log in), then register as a youth member of Team 271 in the FIRST Dashboard. A parent or guardian must then sign the FIRST Consent and Release form electronically. This is separate from the team, school and BS-STEAM forms.
2. Optional: Review and sign the BS-STEAM Consent and Agreement
This step is optional. It is not required to join Team 271. It is needed only for the BS-STEAM resources described below.
Bay Shore STEAM Corporation (BS‑STEAM) is an independent nonprofit that supports the team with its chat and file platforms, tools and devices, and hotel and flight bookings for trips. Its Consent and Agreement for Use of BS-STEAM Resources replaces the old Communication Waiver.
The agreement has three sections that a parent or guardian marks and initials: (A) accounts on the BS-STEAM platforms and use of its laptops, (B) the media release, and (C) BS-STEAM-owned tools, machines and devices, travel and lodging that BS-STEAM books, and activities BS-STEAM runs. Each section may be declined. Declining affects only what that section covers and does not prevent a student from participating in Team 271. A student’s account on the chat platform is activated only after BS-STEAM has the agreement with Section A marked Agree.
Return the signed agreement to any BS-STEAM staff member or email a scanned copy to Info@BS-STEAM.com. More about the agreement.
3. Order your team uniform
Members wear the team shirt at competitions and outreach events. Use the order form to choose your size, and return it with payment by Friday, November 6, 2026.

4. Read and sign the Student Team Handbook
Not released yet. The 2026-2027 handbook is still being finished, so there is nothing to read or sign for now. Please leave this step until we send it out.
Once it is released, every member and a parent or guardian reads the handbook and signs the agreement page at the end. Bring the signed page with your registration packet.

5. Commit to competitions
Students traveling with the team return a signed permission slip and commitment form for each overnight regional.
Hudson Valley Regional, April 1 to 3, 2027: both forms are due Friday, January 15, 2027, to Mr. Claiborne at the high school with the $100 commitment payment (the trip cost is about $180, to be confirmed); the balance is due Tuesday, March 2, 2027.

What we expect
- Attend at least 40 minutes a week – for example two short after-school meetings, and more during build season.
- Keep grades up. No grade below a C in any progress period.
- Volunteer for outreach activities every season.
- Follow all shop safety rules and the decisions of the coaches and mentors.
